Sheffield Wednesday could be facing a particularly challenging period, with the possibility of another points deduction, as efforts to secure new ownership continue.

Joint administrator Kris Wigfield has again confirmed that several offers to buy the club have been received and are now being assessed, with plans to finalise the next steps soon.

"As I said on Friday, our hope is to grant preferred bidder status by 5th December," Wigfield said. "That would allow the EFL’s processes to begin and move the club a significant step closer to new ownership and a new chapter."

However, Wigfield acknowledged that the club might face further setbacks during this transitional phase, with the risk of additional points being deducted from their tally.

"I have to be honest: there may be more difficult news coming, including the possibility of a further points deduction," he said. "I want to be upfront about that because our supporters deserve transparency. But I also want to be clear: the period between now and January should be as tough as it gets."

He painted a hopeful picture for the club’s future if a sale goes ahead as planned, describing a potential turning point early next year.

"If we secure a buyer as planned, January becomes a chance to regroup, strengthen, and start building a far brighter future — one this club and its supporters absolutely deserve," Wigfield said.

"We need your backing for our staff that pour their heart and soul into the club every day — and for Henrik (Pedersen) and the players to get through these incredibly challenging circumstances."

"We need your support in the stadium, your energy, your belief — because that is what will get us through this dark period."
