Sheffield Wednesday's three-game unbeaten run came to a close after a closely contested 1-0 defeat against Middlesbrough at Riverside Stadium.

Despite significant pressure from Boro, Sheffield Wednesday demonstrated strength throughout to hold their opponents to a narrow scoreline.

An early mistake by Owls defender Gabriel Otegbayo gifted Middlesbrough their only goal of the match in the 11th minute, scored by Morgan Whittaker.

Head coach Henrik Pedersen praised his team's performance.

"A strong, strong performance against a really, really good team," Pedersen said.

"We started the game really, really well with big belief, with big confidence. We were well organised."

He addressed the error that led to the goal, saying:

"Especially on the ball, we were strong until Gabby made a little mistake on the ball. It’s a part of this. We want to play with courage, we want to play with belief and here, it was a little bit too much."

"Then from 60 minutes and the rest of the game, I think we were a stronger team than them."
