Sheffield vet: We've seen a rise in more animals 'suffering from heatstroke' this year
So far - we've had three heatwaves in 2025
Vets in South Yorkshire & North Derbyshire tell us they've had an 'extremely busy year' so far - due to more animals suffering from 'heatstroke'.
It comes after three heatwaves up to now in 2025 - & temperatures look set to soar once again this week.
Hannah Mason works at Highfield Vets in Sheffield - She says dog owners need to keep an eye out for a few things while it's hot:
"If dogs are weak, drooling a lot, panting excessively, or have very red or pale gums, or sometimes they may get diarrhoea or vomiting - which can be bloody - then they need to cool down as quickly as possible.
"Breeds which can be more at risk in the heat include pugs, frenchies, boxers, British bulldogs - any dogs which have the squashed, flatter faces - they really struggle to regulate their own temperature.
"So, if it is above 22 or 23 degrees Celsius - those types of breeds do not need a walk - just keep them inside and keep them cool."
It's forecast to reach highs of around 30 degrees tomorrow in South Yorkshire & North Derbyshire.
