Sheffield United have added two experienced defenders to the squad at the conclusion of transfer deadline day.

Former Burnley and Brentford man Ben Mee has put pen to paper on a one year deal, with the option for a further 12 months.

The 35 year old centre-back says he wants to use his experience to help the squad progress.

Speaking to the Blades website, Mee said: "It is good to finally be a Sheffield United player, having been around the club and group for the last two weeks."

"The atmosphere could be better, but that's because of results not going our way and hopefully things are going to turnaround.

"There is a good, young group of players here that is full of talent, so hopefully I can add a bit of experience to that. I appreciated the opportunity to come and train here initially and I've been trying to help around the place."

Elsewhere, Republic of Ireland international Mark McGuinness has penned a four year deal at Bramall Lane, making the move over from Luton.

The 24 year old started his career at Arsenal and is no stranger to South Yorkshire, having spent time on loan with city rivals Sheffield Wednesday.

"There's one thing for sure, and you can ask anyone in the game, whenever people talk about Bramall Lane, they'll always mention the fans and the atmosphere" McGuinness commented.

"I remember walking down the tunnel and you hear the music and the pre-match anthem; it's a great feeling."

Going the other way for Sheffield United, defender Jack Robinson is to move to newly promoted Birmingham City for an undisclosed fee.
