Sheffield's Supertram network is poised to return to its normal 12-minute timetable following £2.75 million worth of investment work, scheduled for completion during the Easter school holidays.

The tram service has been operating on a temporary timetable while new drivers were trained over the Winter. With drivers now ready to deliver fully scheduled services, the network will resume its standard timetable from Monday April 13.

Critical work to replace worn rails and repair concrete track slabs is underway, aimed at boosting the network's reliability and improving roads for other highway users.

It's part of a £110 million investment into the network due to be completed by 2027, including upgrades to trams, tracks, control systems, and the construction of the new Tram Train station at Magna.

The current phase of works will affect Purple and partial Blue tram services between Sheffield Station and Gleadless Townend, running from March 28 to April 12.

South Yorkshire's Mayor Oliver Coppard said: “We’ve got the new drivers trained quickly and they’re helping us get back to the Supertram service that people rightly expect.”

“Reliability across February was 99.2%, the highest since November. Passenger numbers have grown 3.8%, the strongest year-on-year growth since last April.”
