Police investigate suspected 'targeted' shooting in Sheffield

Officers were called to reports of shots being fired in the Manor area last night - nobody was injured

Police have launched an investigation after shots were fired in Sheffield last night, in what officers think may have been a targeted attack.

South Yorkshire Police were first called to Harborough Close in Manor at 10:41pm last night after reports of gunshots.

Nobody was hurt during the incident though there was damaged to a vehicle and nearby property.

Extra patrols have been carried out in the area today.

Detective Superintendent Nikki Shimwell, of South Yorkshire Police, said: "This reckless criminality put innocent people in danger and the perpetrator should feel fortunate that no one was injured.

"We are treating this as a targeted attack, and I want to assure the local community that officers and detectives are working at pace to piece together the circumstances behind this incident and bring the person responsible for this crime to justice.

“I understand that news of this incident will have greatly concerned residents and there will be additional officer patrols in the area today and over the course of this week to ensure the safety and security of the community.

"If you have any concerns, please speak to our officers when you see them on patrol, they are there for your safety and will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

"If anyone has information that could help our investigation, I urge you to please come forward.

"Even the smallest piece of information could be the key to us progressing our investigation and finding those responsible.

“The support we receive from our communities is vital in tackling gun crime. If you know something we don't, tell us so we can act on it."
