Six arrested during protests and counter-protests in Sheffield city centre
Public order offences and assaults among charges
Six people were arrested following protests and counter-protests in Sheffield city centre as part of a comprehensive policing operation.
The demonstrations took place on 13th July, with police enforcing legal conditions under Sections 12 and 14 of the Public Order Act 1986 to maintain public safety.
Among the arrested were three men aged 26, 32, 36, and another man of unknown age, all suspected of public order offences.
Additionally, a 65-year-old man faced suspicion of assault while a 17-year-old was detained for allegedly assaulting an emergency worker.
Superintendent Charlotte Bloxham expressed gratitude towards the public, local businesses, and partners for their cooperation during the operation.
Bloxham acknowledged the disruptions protests can cause but emphasised the force's commitment to minimising them while allowing peaceful and lawful demonstrations.
She noted the complexities arising from the counter-protest group not adhering to imposed conditions but praised officers for safely managing the situation.
Bloxham reiterated respect for lawful protests but emphasised zero tolerance for criminality or anti-social behaviour.
Anyone encountering threatening behaviour or wishing to report crime or anti-social incidents is encouraged to contact the police on 101 or via their website. In emergencies, dial 999.
