Sheffield City Council has announced plans to demolish the former Manor Social Club after efforts to contact the building's owners failed.

The club, on City Road, was devastated by fire more than a year ago leaving much of the structure in an unsafe condition and requiring continuous security.

The Council has maintained 24-hour security on site at considerable expense to prevent access to the dangerous building.

However, following unsuccessful attempts to engage with the owners over the future of the site, the Council has decided to move ahead with demolition work, scheduled to begin in early January 2026.

Cllr Ben Miskell, Chair of the Transport Committee at Sheffield City Council said:

“It’s sad to see the condition this once important building to the local community has been left in following the awful fire earlier this year."

“Officers from the Council have tried for several months to engage with the owner of the building but without success. Since the fire, we have maintained 24-hour security to prevent people going into what is an incredibly dangerous site.

“Despite the numerous attempts to engage the owners, sadly, it has come to the point where the City Council needs to act, and demolition of the building is the appropriate option given the ongoing risks.”

Officials have also stated they will seek to recover any costs incurred for security and demolition at the site.
