A Sheffield man has been jailed after entering a Rotherham home with a firearm.

At 10.36pm on 12 October 2024, police received a report that earlier in the evening a man carrying a shotgun had followed a 36-year -old man into a property at Larch Mews.

Two occupants were at the address at the time but fortunately no evidence of a discharge was found, and no injuries were reported.

The offender, Jamie Wild, 34, of Roscoe Mount, Sheffield, fled the scene in a white Seat Ibiza following the incident.

Officers attended and checked CCTV and doorbell footage which showed Wild carrying a sawn-off shotgun following the victim into the property.

Crime scene investigators carried out forensic analysis of the area where the Seat had been parked, which returned a DNA match for Wild.

On 25 October, officers executed a warrant at an address in Conisborough, where Wild was arrested.

Following a search of the address, officers found a sawn-off shotgun with two cartridges loaded into the weapon.

During his police interview, Wild refused to comment to all questions posed.

He was charged with possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, and possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

With the evidence stacked against him, Wild pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence on 6 June at Sheffield Crown Court.

He was sentenced at the same court on Friday (15 August) and jailed for eight years and six months.

Wild’s firearm and ammunition was ordered to be forfeited and destroyed.

Wild was found not guilty of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

Detective Inspector Lucy Garside, of Rotherham CID, said:

“I am glad to see this dangerous individual taken off our streets and as a result of our investigation the weapon destroyed.

“We do not tolerate gun crime in South Yorkshire and are relentless in pursuing offenders."
