Sheffield LibDems have ended the suspension of the city’s youngest councillor from the party after a complaint against him was dismissed.

Sheffield Liberal Democrats issued a short statement, saying they “are happy to confirm that Coun Willis Marshall is now reinstated as a member of the Liberal Democrat group on Sheffield City Council.

“This follows his suspension from the party last year pending an investigation which has now concluded and the complaint dismissed.”

The short statement, signed by Sheffield party chair Coun Sue Alston and council group leader Coun Martin Smith, adds: “There will be no further statements made on this issue.”

Coun Marshall said at the time of his suspension in May 2025 that he believed he had done nothing wrong. He continued to serve as an independent councillor while the complaint against him was investigated by the party.

The nature of the complaint has never been made public.

Coun Marshall was elected to the Woodhouse ward in a by-election in November 2024 aged 19, when he became the youngest member of the council.

He was a University of Sheffield politics and international relations student.
