Upgrades have been agreed to Sheffield centres that support young children and their families to get the best start in life.

Sheffield has seven council-run Family Hubs which deliver activities for babies and children aged up to five. They also support families and carers of children and young people aged up to 19 and up to 25 for those with special educational needs and disabilities.

Plans to spend £129,200 of government funding this year were approved yesterday (April 13) by Sheffield City Council’s finance and performance policy committee.

This will allow for the addition of a sensory space and other improvements to internal areas at Valley Park Family Hub . The perimeter fencing and signage at the hub on Bankwood Close, Gleadless, will also be updated.

A new outdoor play space will be created at the Early Days Family Hub on Palgrave Road, Parson Cross.

All seven hubs will get improved IT facilities and new sinks in the clinic spaces used by midwives and health visitors.
