Puppy pandemonium: Chesterfield RSPCA branch inuandated by 24 new arrivals in one week
One rescue dog gave birth to a litter of 14
It’s been puppy pandemonium at an RSPCA centre in Chesterfield after two rescue dogs from South Yorkshire welcomed 24 pups in just one week.
Staff at the RSPCA Chesterfield & North Derbyshire Branch are providing round the clock care for the new arrivals, 14 of which were born to five-year-old Cane Corso Kila who was rescued earlier this month.
The other new mum, Susie, gave birth to 10 pups after being rescued from Barnsley.
Chloe Gee, who works at the branch, said: “By the time we found out Kila was pregnant, we’d already taken Susie in, knowing that she was expecting."
“When we discovered we would be having two litters we were rather surprised; especially as they were due just a few days apart.”
“Both Kila and Susie are so sweet. They’re such good mums and we’re supporting them as best we can, including the two who are being hand-reared.
“It’s been a really busy time but we’re so proud to have 19 beautiful, wiggly puppies who are becoming cheekier and funnier by the day.
“It’s still touch and go for the two hand-rears but we’re cautiously optimistic!
“However, looking after all of the pups has really taken its toll on the whole team and on our funds, so we’d be really grateful to anyone who can help as we nurture these gorgeous families.”
The RSCPA branch is now appealing for help to feed the puppies - and to find loving homes.
