Rotherham Central: no services to or from the train station
It's due to possible flood risks, with Storm Claudia moving across the area
People wanting to travel by train to or from Rotherham are being warned there will be no services from Rotherham Central from this afternoon until tomorrow because of the flood risk associated with Storm Claudia.
Network Rail says it's taking the proactive step of disconnecting signalling and telecommunications equipment in the area to avoid damage in the event of the River Don flooding.
It means no Northern or Supertram services will call at Rotherham Central from 4pm today (Friday) until noon tomorrow.
Mark Hayles, Network Rail route operations manager, said:
“We’ve taken proactive steps during severe weather in the past to successfully protect critical equipment from water damage, avoiding significant passenger disruption and associated costs.
“We apologise to passengers affected by the route closure. However, forecasts indicate flooding in the Rotherham area, and this is the most effective way to safeguard the railway and restore services as quickly as possible once conditions improve.”
Passengers are advised to check with their train operator or National Rail before travelling.
