A Rotherham landlord has been fined after failing to fix major safety issues with a home he was renting out in the told.

Rotherham Council successfully prosecuted landlord Zaffar Hussain for neglecting hazards at his property on Foljambe Road.

An inspection revealed multiple problems including exposed wiring, lack of smoke alarms, fire safety concerns, poor security, excess cold, defective windows and a rodent infestation.

The Council issued a legal notice for remedial work but necessary repairs weren't completed in time, leading to legal action being launched.

Hussain was fined ÂŁ4,000, ordered to pay a ÂŁ1,600 victim surcharge, ÂŁ500 in compensation, plus prosecution costs totaling ÂŁ6,664.30.

Cllr Linda Beresford, Cabinet Member for Housing, said: “Everyone deserves to live in a home that is safe, warm and free from hazards."

"This case shows what can happen when landlords repeatedly ignore their legal responsibilities and fail to act, even after being formally required to do so."
