Man arrested after allegations of sexual activity with a child in Rotherham

The arrest has been made after alleged incidents at a Kimberworth convenience store

.A man has been arrested on suspicion of child sex offences after an incident in Rotherham last week.

A 53-year-old man is being questioned after a staff member was seen emerging from the back room of a Kimberworth convenience store with a young person on Saturday (April 25)

On the following day, a second report concerned an assault on a staff member.

Detectives have since identified the young person involved, who is now assisting with the investigation.

Detective Chief Inspector Emma Knight of South Yorkshire Police said:

“While enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding these two incidents, I would like to publicly thank local residents who contact us to report their suspicions."

"Intelligence is key in crime prevention and reduction, and those who live and work in our communities are one of our greatest sources of intelligence.

“We are aware that these incidents has caused concern within the local community and we completely understand why this is the case.

"Our investigation is ongoing and we are pleased to have been able to identify the young person involved so they can assist us with our enquiries and help us determine our next steps.”
