A man who threw objects at police officers protecting a hotel in Rotherham during rioting last year has been handed a suspended sentence.

21 year old Jack Knight was recorded aiming at police outside the Holiday Inn Express in Manvers during the disorder last August.

He was later seen on CCTV buying a crate of beer from a nearby shop, at which point he took his balaclava off.

Phone messages and bank transactions also placed Knight at the scene.

Knight, of The Crescent, Bolton-upon-Dearne, admitted to violent disorder and was handed 20 months in prison suspended for two years, as well as a 50-day rehabilitation order.
