Staff at South Yorkshire's oldest vinyl shop reckon the Leadmill's closure will have a 'detrimental' impact on Sheffield.

The iconic music venue is hosting its final gig & club night in the city this weekend.

Mark Elliott from Record Collector in Broomhill admits it's a concerning time for the local music scene:

"Hopefully the Leadmill will find a new home in the city.

"I suppose it's going to take some time for them to find their feet and bounce back.

"Obviously, the city isn't helped by the fact the 02 academy is out of action.

"Sheffield almost feels like the poor relative of the family in some ways.

"Bands go to Manchester, Leeds, and Nottingham; they don't necessarily need to come to Sheffield anymore.

"Now that the Leadmill is going, it's perhaps even more likely that bands will give Sheffield a miss.

"I've had some very fond nights out there; I've seen some greats bands - great memories to look back on.

"It's a big part of everybody's youth around Sheffield.

"I've met girlfriends there; it's all part of growing up in Sheffield.

"It's a real shame and I think it'll have a detrimental effect on the city.

"It's an iconic Sheffield institution."

Over 70 members of staff at the Leadmill are losing their jobs after they lost a legal battle with their landlord - the Electric Group - earlier this year.
