Sheffield's own Pulp have been honoured with a legends plaque in the city today.

The band went to the unveiling outside the Town hall where fans turned up to see them and the plaque in the city.

The band formed in Sheffield when singer Jarvis Cocker and Peter Dalton started the band while at school together in the later 70's.

The band's breakthrough album His 'n' Hers was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize, while 1995's Different Class won the award.

The album reached number one in the UK Albums Chart and produced four Top 10 singles, including Common People.

They've headlined Glastonbury, and last year released the album More.

The Right Worshipful Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Cllr Andrew Sangar said:

"Pulp are such a big part of Sheffield’s cultural story. From their beginnings here in the city to becoming one of the most recognisable British bands of their generation, they have taken a little bit of Sheffield with them wherever their music has travelled.

"There is something particularly special about recognising them here, in the place where it all began. Sheffield is enormously proud of its musical heritage and Pulp have played a huge part in putting our city and its creativity on the national and international stage."

Councillor Fran Belbin, Leader of Sheffield City Council

"There could hardly be a better time to celebrate Pulp and everything they have achieved. Sheffield has just been shortlisted for UK City of Culture 2029, and our incredible music heritage is an important part of what makes this city so special.

"Pulp’s story began here in Sheffield and went on to reach audiences around the world. That combination of home-grown creativity, ambition and a strong sense of place says so much about our city. Home-grown creativity, perseverance, ambition and a strong sense of place.

"This plaque is a celebration of an extraordinary Sheffield band, but it is also a reminder of the cultural talent our city has produced and continues to produce. "
