While no injuries were reported initially, later that night a man went to hospital with injuries consistent with a firearms discharge. His injuries are not life-threatening or life-changing, police confirmed.

Police appeal for information

Detectives remain at the scene on Goldsmith Drive, gathering evidence and speaking to witnesses in the area.

South Yorkshire Police have said there will be an increased police presence in the area.

Detective Chief Inspector Emma Knight said criminals using illegal guns put the public at serious risk.

"Criminals who carry and fire illegal weapons are putting members of the public at risk of serious harm," DCI Knight said.

"There is always a serious risk of innocent people getting caught in the crossfire. As detectives and forensic teams continue to work around the clock to find those responsible, we also need the support of our local communities.

"The information and intelligence you provide is crucial in helping us tackle gun crime and bring those involved in this criminality to justice.

"We've seen before that even the smallest piece of information could prove to be an important part of the jigsaw, and it's imperative that if you know something about last night's incident or have seen anything suspicious in the local area in recent days, you report it to us."

DCI Knight also encouraged anyone unable to report directly to police to contact the independent charity Crimestoppers.

"Gun crime has absolutely no place in South Yorkshire, and while we continue to work relentlessly to put a stop to it, we cannot do so without your help and cooperation," DCI Knight added.

Anyone with information can contact South Yorkshire Police by calling 101, quoting incident number 990 of 19 December 2025. Alternatively, details can be passed anonymously through Crimestoppers online or by calling 0800 555 111.
