New look planned for Sheffield city centre pub
Star Pubs and Bars have applied to Sheffield City Council for planning permission to tile part of the front and side of the Red Deer on Pitt Street
A Sheffield city centre pub popular with university students and staff is planning a new look for its exterior – but its mural will stay.
Star Pubs and Bars have applied to Sheffield City Council for planning permission to tile part of the front and side of the Red Deer on Pitt Street, off West Street.
The proposal involves “minor works to enhance the external frontage and partial side by tiling sections of the timber frontage with glazed brick
slips with new mouldings to the timber pilasters”.
A separate application seeks to replace the pub sign and other signage on the exterior of the building.
A statement accompanying the application states: “The Red Deer is a small-sized public house which serves the local community.
“The pub currently offers real cask ales and food. It also hosts a function room to the first floor, allowing the public to use it to host community meetings,
presentations and allowing for university students to study and socialise.
“There is a small beer garden to the rear.
“Our client is wanting to enhance and uplift this well-loved community pub creating a new and enticing look to the front to go with the talented mural to the side elevation that is being retained.”
The document adds: “The final design proposal has been reached to ensure improved facilities not only for the pub but also for the wider community to ensure that the facility creates a more attractive amenity for the area.”
