A 55-year-old man has died following a stabbing in Doncaster late last night.

Officers were called to Galsworthy Close around 10.53pm by the ambulance service.

Members of the public were performing CPR when police arrived.

The man suffered a serious knife injury to his neck and was taken to hospital, where he passed away.

His family has been told and is being supported by specialist officers.

A 46-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder, possession of an offensive weapon, dangerous driving, and robbery, and remains in police custody.

It's thought several other people ran from the scene before police arrived.

Detective Chief Inspector Ben Wood of South Yorkshire Police said:“I am urgently appealing for anyone with information about this attack to come forward."

"Once again, we find ourselves dealing with the devastating aftermath of knife crime.

"This should not be the norm in South Yorkshire, but we need the support of our communities to root knife crime out and bring offenders to justice.

"If you have any knowledge of who may have been involved, sharing this information with us or Crimestoppers, could help prevent another victim from coming to harm.”

Anyone with information can contact South Yorkshire Police on 101.
