Four puppies have been found abandoned outside a South Yorkshire RSPCA branch, just weeks after a similar litter was left at the same site.

The three female and one male terrier-cross puppies, estimated to be around eight weeks old, were discovered in a small crate at 8am this morning outside the Doncaster and Rotherham District branch by a passerby.

Branch Manager Daniel Cartwright said the pups, named Sunny, Rain, Drizzle, and Puddle, were frightened, in need of a bath, and smelled strongly of urine, suggesting they had been kept in poor conditions.

“They were in cramped conditions in this carrier and were quite frightened and they smelt of urine so it appears they have been kept in dirty conditions"

“Fortunately we don’t think they had been there too long. Our staff have bathed them and will be offering them lots of TLC to help them recover.

"They are due to have a vet check and we will continue to care for them until they are ready to be put up for adoption, probably from the end of this week."

The discovery follows a similar incident on November 15, when a litter of seven puppies was found abandoned in a metal cage at the same location during bad weather.

Those puppies, named after storms, have now all been rehomed.

Staff believe the latest four puppies are from the same family, despite being younger, given their similarities in appearance and the circumstances in which they were left.

Daniel added: “It’s always very sad to see pets who are in desperate need of medical care being left in circumstances such as this."

"We would urge anyone who is struggling to look after their animals to seek help and support when their pet first needs help, rather than simply abandoning an animal in their moment of need.”
