Man suffers 'life changing injuries' after Doncaster shooting
The 34 year old as seriously injured last night while walking in parkland on South Street
A man has suffered life changing injuries after a shooting in Doncaster last night.
Police were called at 6:22pm last night to parkland off South Street in Highfields.
A 34 year old man was found with serious injuries and remains in hospital.
Officers have been carrying out extra patrols in the area today but are yet to make any arrests.
Detective Inspector Matthew Barnes, of South Yorkshire Police, said: "This serious incident took place in broad daylight in an area frequented by the local community, putting innocent people at risk of being caught up in an offender’s actions."
"We are committed to taking firm, decisive action against anyone who chooses to engage in violence or carry illegal firearms and we have a team of highly skilled detectives working to ascertain the circumstances of this incident.
"Since this was reported to us, we have already carried out a number of enquiries and we now believe this incident could be linked to a previous firearms discharge which happened yesterday nearby within the Scawthorpe area.
"I want to make this very clear - gun crime is a very serious crime which puts innocent lives at risk and this type of criminality does not belong on our streets.
"People should be able to feel safe in our communities, and I want to assure you we are doing everything we can to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
"During the time of the incident, it is believed a grey Land Rover Discovery was nearby at the time and we would like to speak to anyone who saw the vehicle and its occupants as we believe this could be the missing piece we need to assist us with our investigation. If you have any information, I urge you to report it to us."
