Man jailed for 11 years after DNA on shotgun shells links him to Rotherham shooting
Shotgun shells were found at the scene with DNA samples on the ammunition being traced back to 38 year old Kyle Dearne
A Rotherham man has been jailed for 11 years after he was found to be behind a shooting last summer.
Officers were called to reports of shots being fired towards a vehicle on Pitt Street on August 12th 2025, with nobody being hurt at the time.
Shotgun shells were found at the scene with DNA samples on the ammunition being traced back to 38 year old Kyle Dearne, of Pitt Street.
CCTV which captured the incident showed a man wearing a grey tracksuit holding a sawn-off shotgun running after a Land Rover before firing two shots.
An identicle traksuit was found at Dearn's home.
He was today jailed for 11 years at Sheffield Crown Court and will spent four years on licence after release.
Temporary Detective Sergeant Jess Mitchell of South Yorkshire Police said:
"Dearn had no second thought for the potential deadly consequences of his behaviour. Fortunately, no one was injured but this isn't always the case. Every time a bullet is fired innocent lives are put at needless risk.
"We are working tirelessly to tackle and reduce firearms criminality, and we will continue to robustly target those involved, ensuring justice is served to the thugs who put the people of South Yorkshire at risk of significant harm.
"But we cannot do this alone. It is crucial that our local communities report any information they have to us about those involved in gun crime.
"Staying silent when you know something only facilitates this type of criminality, and where gun crime is rife, unbearable tragedies are likely to follow."
