A man has been charged over an incident yesterday which saw part of Sheffield cordoned off for much of the day.

Officers were called to reports of a 'suspicious device' in Washington Road in the Sharrow area, with the bomb squad later arriving on scene.

The object was later determined to not be dangerous, although homes and businesses has to be evacuated.

Steven Budzizewski, 56 and of Washington Road, is due before Sheffield Magistrates' Court today charged with intentionally or recklessly causing a public nuisance and affray.

Superintendent Martin Simcock of South Yorkshire Police said:

“I appreciate that yesterday’s incident will have caused disruption for some residents, and I would like to thank the local community for their patience and cooperation as officers carried out necessary checks.”
