Man arrested over stabbing at Lundwood store in Barnsley

Police in Barnsley have arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder following a stabbing at a shop in Lundwood.

The 26-year-old suspect, from Barnsley, was detained on Saturday, 9th May after a man sustained serious injuries in a suspected robbery at Todays Express on Pontefract Road on Thursday, 7th May.

Officers were alerted to the incident at 8.50pm that evening, finding the 40-year-old victim in a life-threatening condition.

The injured man was hospitalized, and thankfully his condition has now stabilised.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Knowles said: "Our officers and detectives have been working day and night on this case, to trace the suspect, piece together how events unfolded and reassure our communities.

"The man we have arrested remains in custody for questioning. In the meantime, officers will be continuing high-visibility patrols in Lundwood over the weekend to answer questions from the local community and ensure they feel safe.

"Our enquiries continue and I'd like to thank all members of the public who have contacted us so far with information."
