A 15 year old boy has been arrested after a Land Rover was driven at speeds of up to 70mph in a 40mph zone in Doncaster earlier this month.

The vehicle was stopped being driven erratically in the Adwick area, with people inside wearing balaclavas.

As well as speeding, the vehicle pulled in front of members of the public at junctions and was driven head on at police, who decided to use one of their vehicles to ram the Land Rover and bring it to a stop.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop and driving without insurance or a licence.

He was also arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and has since been bailed.

South Yorkshire Police Sergeant James Shirley said:

"Our officers worked as a team to quickly and professionally bring this pursuit to a safe conclusion and to prevent any harm coming to members of the public.

"The manner in which this vehicle was being driven posed a clear and immediate risk to the public, and the consequences could have been far more serious.

"Thankfully on this occasion no one was injured, but next time this could have been a different story.

"When someone chooses to drive recklessly, especially at high speeds and without the legal requirements of a licence or insurance, they endanger not only themselves but every pedestrian and road user around them.

"Dangerous drivers are not welcome on South Yorkshire's roads, and while you can't be responsible for everyone else's actions, you can your own.

"Don't put yourself, other road users and pedestrians in danger with your own reckless actions. Take responsibility and do you part to keep our roads safe as the implications could be life-changing."
