Sheffield is set to benefit from more than £2m to build two brand new youth and community centres.

The cash, which is part of a national program , will fund two new buildings - to help kids in Stannington and Winn Gardens.

A statement from Sheffield City Council said: "Sheffield is set to benefit from major new investment in youth and community services, as the city receives more than £2 million from the Youth Investment Fund (YIF) to build two brand-new youth and community centres using Modern Methods of Construction (MMC).

"Sheffield City Council is one of 16 organisations across England awarded funding to deliver new youth facilities as part of a £22 million national programme.

"This new grant will fund two modular buildings: a replacement youth and community centre at Stannington Park and a completely new facility at Winn Gardens, on the site of the former tower block. These buildings will join a growing network of improved youth spaces across the city.

"The announcement follows previous YIF investment totalling nearly £3 million, which funded major renovations of Stocksbridge Youth Centre and All Saints Youth Club, along with smaller refurbishments at Tinsley Youth Club and Woodthorpe Youth Club – all completed last financial year."

Councillor Kurtis Crossthorn, Chair of the Communities, Parks and Leisure Committee at Sheffield City Council, said:

“We are delighted to receive this further Youth Investment Fund grant, which will make a real difference to young people in Stannington, Winn Gardens and across Sheffield.

“These brand-new, modern facilities will provide safe, welcoming spaces where young people can learn, socialise, and access the support they need. This investment strengthens our commitment to delivering outstanding youth provision in every community and ensuring that every young person has the opportunity to thrive.”

Kate Stewart, Youth Investment Fund Director for Social Investment Business, said:

“This is great news for youth services and young people. Even more young people will have new opportunities to thrive in high quality youth centres in some of the most deprived parts of the country. We are thrilled that Sheffield City Council is one of the youth services benefiting from the Youth Investment Fund. The Modern Methods of Construction programme is an exciting and innovative project, and its fast-paced turnaround means that young people will soon be reaping the benefits.”
