Two people from Scunthorpe have been jailed for seven years each after admitting sharing indecent images of children and discussing child sex abuse.

Pamela Martin, 44, and Christopher O’Kane, 41, both of Lakeside Drive, were sentenced at Grimsby Crown Court yesterday (23 April).

Both will serve at least four years in prison.

The court heard how Martin abused her position as a teaching assistant in South Yorkshire by taking indecent images of children and sharing them with O’Kane.

Messages between the pair also revealed disturbing discussions relating to the sexual abuse of children.

Both Martin and O'Kane pleaded guilty to:

  • three counts of making an indecent image of a child
  • two counts of distributing an indecent image of a child
  • possession of an extreme pornographic image
  • and publishing an obscene article.

Martin pleaded not guilty to one count of voyeurism, but this was left to remain on file.

They've also been made subject to indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Orders and will remain on the sex offenders register for life.

“Martin took advantage of her role in a school to create indecent images of children"

Leading the investigation, Detective Constable Helena Allison, said: “Martin and O’Kane are perverted criminals, and I am reassured that they are now behind bars.

“I hope the sentence given today sends a clear message that we will not tolerate anyone preying on children for their own sick sexual gratification. If you commit child sex offences, we will do everything in our power to bring you to justice for your crimes.

“Martin took advantage of her role in a school to create indecent images of children, at a time when her victims and their families trusted her, as a professional, to look after them.

“She then further abused this trust by sharing these images with O’Kane, engaging in vile conversation together."
