South Yorkshire Police officer sacked after starting relationship with convicted criminal
It comes after a misconduct hearing earlier this month

A serving South Yorkshire Police officer has been sacked after starting and refusing to end a relationship with a convicted criminal.
Former PC Sarah Bromfield has been the subject of a misconduct hearing, with the verdict being confirmed earlier this week.
She'd told the force in 2023 that she was an acquiatance of a man who was subsequently released from prison in October 2024.
After the unnamed man was let out of custody PC Bromfield started an intimate relationship with him with her later telling fellow officers that she was attracted to his “bad boy image”.
She was told in no uncertain terms to end the relationship and break all contact with the man.
In March last year PC Bromfield was issued an official order to stop associating with the man - something which she failed to do as she became engaged to him in August 2025.
The hearing found PC Bromfield's failure to follow orders amounted to gross misconduct and created a "significant risk to public confidence in the force and the police service generally".
Bromfield has been dismissed without notice and barred from joining any other police force.
She has the right to appeal.
