Five people have been arrested in connection with two firearms incidents in Doncaster this week.

On Monday (May 18) shots were reported at a home on Amersall Crescent in the Scawthorpe just after midnight, resulting in damage but no injuries.

Later that day, at 6.22 pm, a man was shot while walking on parkland on South Street in the Highfields area.

The 34-year-old victim was hospitalized with serious injuries.

Detectives have now arrested three men—aged 20, 28, and 34—on suspicion of attempted murder. They remain in custody.

A fourth man, aged 39, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, firearm possession with intent, and possession with intent to supply, while a 27-year-old woman was arrested for assisting offenders and has been bailed pending further inquiries.

Detective Inspector Matthew Barnes, of South Yorkshire Police, said:

“Our investigation into these two firearms discharges is continuing at pace following these arrests, and we have recovered one firearm.

"We are committed to finding answers to why these concerning incidents, which put the public and our communities at significant risk, came to happen."

“You will continue to see our officers provide a presence in the areas surrounding the incidents, and I would urge you to speak to them if you have any concerns."

“I would like to thank those who have provided information so far. Statements from witnesses play a vital part in securing justice, and we are continuing to appeal for witnesses and those with any information that could aid our enquiries to get in touch.

"We cannot stop firearms crime alone, and we rely on the support of our communities.”
