Farmers across South Yorkshire & North Derbyshire tell us they're 'feeling the effects' of the war in the Middle East.

It'd led to costs going up in the agriculture sector around things like fuel & fertiliser.

Mark Downing is from Whincover Farm in Wath-Upon-Dearne:

"Diesel what we use in the tractors and in farm vehicles has obviously increased by quite a large amount.

"So, that's impacted us in terms of running the machinery and shows what impact the war in Iran is having back here in the UK.

"Fertiliser has shot up a large amount since this war started.

"We're working with tight margins as it is.

"Once your fuel costs go up and your fertiliser costs go up, it tightens those margins up ever further.

"It's impacting everything really.

"Prices can fluctuate quite rapidly - particularly when you've got Russia in the background and everything going off with Iran.

"Some of the grain we've got in the ground right now, we might not end up selling that until 2027, so it's quite a difficult industry to forecast when to buy and sell really.

"Some farmers use contractors, so obviously contractors are going to have to put their charges up to incorporate the increase in fuel costs.

"So, it's going to have an impact on all fronts really."

The United States & Israel started the war in Iran back in February this year.
