Faded road markings becoming 'more of a hazard' in South Yorkshire & North Derbyshire
That's according to a new report from the RAC
It's feared faded road markings across South Yorkshire & North Derbyshire are causing 'serious issues' for drivers in 2026.
A new report has found 1 in 6 motorists have had a 'near miss' because of unclear, weathered surfaces.
Chris Marples works as a driving instructor in Chesterfield.
He says it's a hazard worth being aware of:
"The navigation side of things with signs and roads markings is every bit as important as using a sat nav - which seems to be the done thing these days.
"If you navigate your own markings incorrectly, the best thing to do is to stay in the lane you're in and go where that lane takes you - even if it means going off course.
"When it's raining, you really can't see the road markings anyway - no matter what.
"It can take experience and knowledge of your local area to navigate those tricky circumstances sometimes, even if the road markings have only just been re-done.
"When the markings fade - particularly on the multi-lane roundabouts - it does cause serious issues.
"Even when the lane markings are good, people don't always navigate properly."
