Extra police powers following violence in Page Hall in Sheffield
Large groups have been reported with some people seen carrying wooden bats and metal bars
A Section 60 order gives police officers temporary authority to stop and search any person or vehicle within a specific geographic area without needing standard reasonable suspicion.
The power is currently in place in the Page Hall area of Sheffield and will be until 7.40pm this evening (5 August).
There is an increased police presence following reports of violent disorder.
At 10.15pm on Monday night (3 August), police were called to reports of a disturbance between a large group of people on Willboughby Street.
It is reported that members of the group had wooden bats. Officers attended and the group dispersed.
One woman sustained minor injuries which required hospital treatment. She has since been discharged.
A 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault. He has now been bailed pending further enquiries.
Around 4.30pm yesterday (4 August) police were called to reports of a collision between a silver Volkswagen Passat and a pedestrian on Owler lane.
It is further reported that the occupants got out of the car and assault a man with metal bars. It is also reported that a large group of people gathered at the same time.
Officers attended and the group dispersed. Two men received serious injuries and have been transported to hospital.
Police say both incidents are linked.
