Demolition of Doncaster's Edlington Sports Centre to begin in August
The old leisure centre will be replaced with a brand new facility with a 25m swimming pool
Demolition work at Doncaster's former Edlington Sports Centre will begin in August, ahead of a new facility being built, it's been revealed.
A company has now been appointed to pull down the former leisure centre, making room for a brand new one with a 25m swimming pool.
UDCS Demolition have been awarded the contract by City of Doncaster Council after the demolition was approved late last year.
Mayor of Doncaster Ros Jones said: “This demolition is a major step forward to delivering a brand-new leisure facility for Edlington that will include a 25m swimming pool, changing facilities, wellbeing suite with Innerva equipment, pool viewing gallery and food and drink offer.
“I am proud to deliver continued investment in our leisure facilities across the city of Doncaster, at a time when many local authorities are reducing investment and closing centres.”
Councillor James Church, Cabinet Lead for Sport & Leisure, added: “I want to thank the residents of Edlington for their patience whilst this exciting project continues to develop.
"Since the cabinet decision in November, works have progressed considerably, and I look forward to sharing the final plans over the next few months.”
