Doncaster's Mayor expects DSA to become the 'jewel in the crown' of the local economy
It was confirmed on Tuesday that Doncaster Sheffield Airport will be re-opening
Doncaster's Mayor expects the city's airport to become the 'jewel in the crown' of the local economy.
On Tuesday - South Yorkshire's Mayoral Combined Authority voted to re-open Doncaster Sheffield Airport.
£160 million worth of public funding will now be used to revive it - & Ros Jones says there's no time to waste:
"I believe in 2026, we'll see some of our freight coming in.
"I think later on in 2026 - people will be able to book their holidays.
"We're thinking the latter end of 2027 or 2028 for commercial passenger flights, as the flights have to be advertised at least a year before.
"The jobs and growth around Gateway East will be inspirational for our young people; they know that there will be jobs here on their doorstep.
"We're confident with the business case that DSA will become the 'jewel in the crown' economically."
Doncaster Sheffield Airport closed back in 2022 - under its previous operator - the Peel Group.
