A coordinated effort by South Yorkshire Police and City of Doncaster Council aims to tackle drug-related crime in Town Field, Doncaster, resulting in several arrests and charges.

In recent months, reports of drug use and dealing within Town Field, located in the Wheatley area, prompted targeted initiatives.

Efforts have included high visibility patrols, plain-clothed operations, drone deployments, and intelligence gathering.

Community engagement pop-ups are being held twice weekly at Town Field to connect with residents and address their concerns, while promoting reporting channels.

Council officers bolster police operations by providing intelligence and supporting initiatives through the Starting Point service, which offers support to individuals involved in drug activities.

The council’s Streetscene team conducts daily sweeps of Town Field to remove litter and drug-related items.

Since the end of May, seven people have been arrested on suspicion of drug offences.

Investigations conducted by Doncaster Central Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) have led to four people being charged, with two individuals pleading guilty and pending sentencing in Sheffield Crown Court.

PC Jake Hale arrested Lorcan Overson on 29th June during patrol after suspecting drug activities.

Overson, 36, later admitted possession with intent to supply Class A and B drugs.

He remains in custody ahead of a hearing on 20th August.

Additionally, on 7th July, Kian Ward was apprehended carrying drugs and cash.

Ward, 19, confessed to possession with intent to supply heroin, spice, and crack cocaine.

He awaits sentencing on 7th September.

Inspector Lisa Bird stressed the importance of addressing drug-related crime, which fuels further criminal activities and antisocial behaviour.

She urged residents to continue reporting incidents, stating, “The intelligence and information you provide genuinely helps shape our response.”

Both City of Doncaster Council and South Yorkshire Police are committed to enhancing safety in Doncaster under their Safer City initiative.
