Majority of top Doncaster Council officials live outside of borough, FOI reveals
According to data obtained via a Freedom of Information request, six of the nine most senior council officials have home addresses not in Doncaster.
The salaries of six of the most senior officers at the City of Doncaster Council are being taken out of the borough, as it is revealed the majority of the authority’s top team live elsewhere.
According to data obtained via a Freedom of Information request, six of the nine most senior council officials have home addresses not in Doncaster.
Those nine officers are paid a combined £1.25million, according to the council’s 2026/27 pay policy.
A spokesperson for Doncaster Council said: “Whilst we cannot comment on individuals, as everyone has their own unique personal circumstances, and in common with other places, there is no requirement to live in the city and within its boundaries to work for the council.
“We live in a fluid work environment with today’s modern workforce. Staff have developed their careers in neighbouring authorities for example before working here and travel into Doncaster. We do know that some colleagues stay during the working week in Doncaster.
“What is important is their commitment to the city and its services, focusing their expertise and skills on supporting Doncaster and its residents and businesses.”
The council’s top earner for 2026/27 is chief executive, Damian Allen, who will earn £189,636 this year.
Each of Doncaster Council’s six executive directors will earn £143,329, whilst the two statutory officials, the monitoring officer and finance officer, have service director job titles, entitling them to salaries of £108,164 each.
The average salary at Doncaster Council is £35,801, whilst the lowest earners in the local authority’s employ earn £24,413, the pay policy states.
The same FOI request revealed that over one in five council employees live outside the borough. This increases to nearly a quarter of staff in full time roles.
Of the 3028 full time employees of the council, 738 of them have home addresses outside of Doncaster.
Ros Jones, the Mayor of Doncaster, has repeatedly stressed the importance of increasing the value of the “Donny Pound” and ensuring money earnt in Doncaster is spent in Doncaster.
