Doncaster man sentenced for violent assault after victim left with serious injuries

A Doncaster man has been jailed for three years following a vicious assault that left his victim with severe facial injuries.
Liam Stapleton, 48, attacked his victim by repeatedly punching his head and stamping on it five times.
After calling 999, Stapleton fled the scene but was later arrested by police.
Stapleton pleaded not guilty to a change of wounding with intent, leading to a trial at Sheffield Crown Court.
He was found guilty of the lesser charge of wounding or inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent.
Stapleton, of no fixed abode, received a three-year sentence during a hearing last Friday (June 26).
Detective Sergeant Joshua Heath, of South Yorkshire Police, said: "Officers were faced with a chaotic scene upon arrival, with response and armed officers working together to secure the scene, support the victim and witnesses and establish lines of enquiry to find Stapleton."
"A thorough investigation by Doncaster's Reactive CID team sourced Stapleton's location, leading to his arrest and him being brought before the courts to face punishment for what he had done.
"Stapleton's actions were extremely violent and left the victim with a catalogue of severe injuries.
"I am glad a jury saw through Stapleton's lies and I am pleased he has been given a custodial sentence.
"I hope this sentence brings some closure and reassurance to the victim and shows the public our commitment to seeking prosecutions against violent offenders in South Yorkshire."
