A man from Doncaster who stabbed a man in Ingoldmells in Lincolnshire has been jailed for more than three years after investigators trawled through hours of CCTV to piece together his movements.

Josh Winard of Kirkhill Close, Armthorpe, fled Tower Point, Sea Lane, after he stabbed a man in the area on 16 July last year at around 12.30am.

The 28-year-old's victim eventually collapsed in a nearby car park before being taken to hospital for treatment.

Officers launched a lengthy investigation which saw detectives comb through hours of CCTV to track Winard’s movements on the night in question.

They also launched a public appeal for information in a bid to construct a timeline of his movements to better understand what happened and how.

Evidence showed Winard interacting with his victim in the moments before he attacked him, while information from the public gave officers additional context.

Officers eventually tracked down Winard, who was arrested and subsequently charged with GBH.

He appeared before officials at Lincoln Crown Court at the end of November where he was sentenced to 44 months – three years and eight months – in prison.

DC Emma Dodsworth, who worked on the case, says this result shows that knife crime will not be tolerated in Lincolnshire.

She said: “We will use every tool at our disposal to identify offenders, track them down and bring them to justice.

“Winard’s attack was barbaric and has no place in our county.

“Knife crime claims too many lives each year and there is no reason to carry a knife.

“If you feel the need to do so, stop, think again, and seek help through the various support services available. It can be the difference between life and death.”
