Eight candidates have been nominated for the City of Doncaster Council by-election in Bentley.

The council published the statement of nominations with the details of each candidate following the deadline at 4pm on July 25, 2025.

The by-election was called following the resignation of new councillor Samuel Booth.

Booth was elected alongside Rebecca Booth for Reform UK at the local elections in May 2025. The third seat in the ward was won by Labour’s James Church.

A Reform UK spokesperson said Sam Booth retired for “personal reasons”, with sources informing the Local Democracy Reporting Service that he found he could not balance his occupation as a farmer with his new council duties.

The eight candidates running in the by-election are:

Vanessa Aradia, Green Party

Andy Hiles, Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition

Ahsan Jamil, Workers Party

Matthew Jones, Labour Party

Christine Lunney, The Conservative Party

Jane Nightingale, Independent

Isaiah-John Reasbeck, Reform UK

Giulia Savini, Liberal Democrats

Voters in Bentley ward will go to the polls on August 21, 2025. Photo ID is required to vote in person and the full list of polling stations can be found on the Doncaster Council website.
