Don't buy e-scooters for Christmas, warn Derbyshire Police as 600 seized in past year

Derbyshire Police are urging people not to buy e-scooters as Christmas presents, warning they could end up being destroyed if they are ridden on roads, pavements or other public paths.
They can only be used legally on private land.
In the past year, officers say they have seized and dismantled more than 600 e-scooters that have been ridden illegally.
Since running this campaign, they have also seen a significant drop in the numbers of people being injured in collisions involving e-scooters.
Inspector Lee Welsby, from the Derbyshire force, said: “This is an issue that is often raised in our community meetings, surveys and to officers on the street.
"People don’t feel safe with these vehicles pushing past them on the pavement, or being used to enable crime in our communities.
“We’re sharing the message again ahead of Christmas - you cannot use e-scooters on public land.
"So, please do your research, and make sure all the presents under the tree can be used safely and legally.”
