Agony for Doncaster's Dave Allen after Hrgovic fight stopped in round three
Allen was always set for a big step up against the Croatian heavyweight
Hometown hero Dave Allen suffered the ninth defeat of his career after Filip Hrgovic proved too strong at Doncaster’s Eco-Power Stadium.
Allen was always set for a big step up against the Croatian heavyweight and the towel was thrown in by trainer Jamie Moore with two minutes and 37 seconds on the clock of round three.
Hrgovic had immediately unleashed a barrage of shows on Allen in round one and with the Doncaster boxer not able to throw many punches back, the fight at a packed venue was halted prematurely.
“First of all, Jamie is like my brother, I love Jamie to death,” Allen said inside the ring.
“If Jamie says enough is enough, enough is enough. Thank you for looking after me. If Jamie says it is the right choice, it’s the right choice.”
A 20th victory for Hrgovic, who holds WBO international and WBA Continental Gold titles, keeps him on course to face British heavyweight Moses Itauma later in 2026.
