There are calls for 'more effective' traffic calming measures in a part of Sheffield where a teenager was run over & killed last week.

16-year-old Abdullah Yaser Abdullah Al Yazidi died after getting struck by a car on Staniforth road last Wednesday.

Qais Al-Ahdal is the Independent local Councillor for Darnall:

"Local have been calling for safer roads measures for a few years now.

"A lot of calls have come my way since I was elected as a local councillor around a year ago.

"I have been trying to push for this with Sheffield City Council.

"The local knowledge of people in this area perhaps sometimes gets overlooked, and it shouldn't do.

"I feel scared myself now; I walk on this road every other day.

"We shouldn't be losing our local family members, friends, and neighbours before we take action with traffic calming measures.

"It shouldn't come to this - it could've been any one of us, and that's what makes it scary.

"People have been wanting to see more speed bumps on Staniforth road, and it hasn't been put into place.

"It's a very busy road where everybody walks, and safety measures should be prioritised."

We've approached Sheffield City Council for a statement on this, but they've chosen not to comment at this time.

20-year-old Zulkernain Ahmed & 26-year-old Amaan Ahmed, - both of Locke Drive in Sheffield - have since been charged with Abdullah's murder.
