The leader of Sheffield Council tells us he's confident the city is 'finally' about to the receive the recognition it deserves.

It's after Sheffield made a 9-location shortlist to become the next city of culture in 2029.

The Council is now getting £60,000 to prepare their full application.

Councillor Tom Hunt has this message:

"If you've got ideas for how you think we should celebrate our culture - whether it's about being the home of football, video gaming, music, or being the birthplace of electronic music, then I want to hear from you.

"Tell us what you'd like to see as we work up this bid; because this is about telling the story of who we are and where we're going next.

"We don't shout about ourselves in the way that other cities do - and we're changing that.

"This is exactly the sort of thing that Sheffield should be going for.

"We're going to give it our best shot, and we feel it's Sheffield's time.

"I'm not focussed about who we're going up against.

"We need to put up the best version of ourselves; this is about celebrating Sheffield, and we'll take on all comers."

The winner will get 10 million pounds in prize money.

Sheffield will go up against Blackpool, Inverness-Highland, Ipswich, Middlesbrough, Milton Keynes, Portsmouth, Swindon and Wrexham for the accolade.
