Cordon lifted in Sheffield as people return to their homes after reports of suspicious device

A cordon has been lifted and people been able to go back to their homes in Sheffield after reports of a suspicious device in Sharrow yesterday.

Police were called to a property on Washington Road, everything was resolved safely.

A 56-year-old man who was arrested earlier today on suspicion of making threats to kill remains in police custody at this time.

A Police statement said: "Cordon lifted in Washington Road as people return to their homes

"Searches at a property on Washington Road in the Sharrow area of Sheffield have now concluded.

"The cordon has been lifted and people who were asked to leave their properties can now return home.

"Washington Road has also been fully reopened.

"It comes after the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team attended a property on Washington Road following a report of a suspicious device.

"Following their assessments, they confirmed that the suspicious device is not viable.

"We would like to thank local residents for their understanding and support during this incident.

"If you still have any concerns or queries, please speak to neighbourhood officers in your local area."
