The Sheffield College have paid tribute to Shanice Brookes, who was shot dead in Sheffield city centre in the early hours of Monday (25th May).

The 30-year-old was about to complete her degree.

Police received reports shortly before 2.45am that 30-year-old Shanice had been shot outside of One Four One bar, following an altercation in the street, to which she was an innocent bystander.

Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, Shanice died a short time later in hospital.

Police have charged two people in connection with the fatal shooting.

Angela Foulkes CBE, Chief Executive and Principal, The Sheffield College, said:

“On behalf of our college community, I want to express our deepest condolences to Shanice’s family and friends.

“The loss of Shanice in such shocking circumstances is devastating to all who knew her and our thoughts and heartfelt sympathies are with them at this time.

“Shanice was a vibrant and positive person whose enthusiasm for life and learning was genuinely inspiring.

“An exceptional student and talented visual creative, Shanice had a promising future and was about to complete a BA Honours Degree in Creative Practice with us.

“Shanice brought warmth, humour and energy into many situations, often lifting those around her with her positive outlook.

“She was a valued friend who worked well with her peers and was always willing to support others and help find solutions whenever challenges arose.

“Shanice approached her studies with curiosity, determination and a constant desire to learn more and deepen her understanding.

“She was preparing to exhibit her final work ahead of graduating this summer. Her creative potential was clear to everyone who worked with her.

“We will always be grateful for the privilege of having taught Shanice and for the opportunity to witness her growth as a person and a student.

“We are absolutely heartbroken by the loss of Shanice who will be sorely missed by students and staff alike and who will remember her with immense warmth and affection.

“Support is being put in place for students and staff at this deeply upsetting time as they prepare to return to the college next week following the half term break."
