Christmas and New Year bin collection changes for Sheffield
Sheffield City Council and Veolia have confirmed changes to bin collections over Xmas
Bin collection days will change for some Sheffield residents during the festive period – and you can also put out extra waste and recycling.
Sheffield City Council and Veolia have issued the following advice.
No collections will take place on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
Thursday and Friday bin collections will be altered as follows:
Bins due for collection on Thursday (December25) will be collected on Saturday, December 27.
Bins due for collection on Friday (December 26) will be collected on Sunday (December 28).
Next week, bins due for collection on Thursday (January 1) will instead be collected on Saturday (January 3).
All impacted residents have already been notified via a tag attached to their bins, which detail these changes. All other collections will take place as normal and all bins must be in place to be collected by 7am on the day of collection.
Residents are being encouraged to only buy what they need over the festive period.
However, between December 27 and January 22, any extra waste can be disposed of at home when your rubbish or recycling bins are put out for collection.
Here is how to deal with your excess waste items:
Extra tins, cans and plastic bottles tied in a carrier bag can be placed next to your brown bin.
Glass bottles or jars must be placed inside brown bins, however, otherwise the extra recycling will not be collected.
Up to two bags of extra general waste, tied and placed neatly next to the black bin, will also be collected when your bin is emptied.
Also, you may not be aware that additional paper and cardboard can be placed next to the blue bin for collection all year round. It just needs to be neatly bundled and no larger than the bin.
An alternative for residents with extra waste to dispose of is to visit one of Sheffield’s five Household Waste and Recycling Centres (HWRCs). These will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, and will close at 3pm on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
