Chesterfield drug dealer jailed for 13 months after police raid
A large quantity of drugs was found alongside cash - which has since been given to local charities
A Chesterfield man has been sentenced to 13 months in prison after being caught with illegal drugs during a police raid.
Derbyshire Police executed a search warrant at a house on St Helen’s Street on 1st October, discovering a large quantity of cannabis alongside two bags of synthetic cannabinoids in the kitchen.
The occupant, 26-year-old Aaron Moore, was arrested at the scene.
Moore admitted to two counts of being in possession of Class B drugs with intent to supply.
On December 12, Moore was sentenced at Derby Crown Court to 13 months behind bars.
Over £2000 seized during the raid will be donated to Foundation Derbyshire, a local charity that provides grants to grassroots organisations in the community.
Sergeant Alice Parker, from Derbyshire Police, said:
"Moore was responsible for flooding the streets of Chesterfield with cannabis and synthetic cannabinoids – which are both highly dangerous drugs that can devastate communities," Parker said.
"By locking him up, we have disrupted that supply line into the town and we are pleased he has been taken off our streets."
"We have listened to the concerns raised by the local community and reacted quickly to ensure those involved were stopped.
"A substantial amount of money was seized from Moore, and I am pleased to see the courts have forfeited the money with conditions for it all to be donated to a local community charity.
"I want people to understand the bigger picture around drug supply/use and the impact it has on our communities.
"It is often linked to other forms of criminality in the local area, such as violent assaults, weapons offences, thefts, and burglaries, and those involved often target the most vulnerable in the community."
"We will not stop in our efforts to tackle drug dealers damaging our town – and this should serve as a warning to others that we will catch you and lock you up."
