A banned driver has been jailed for three years after speeding off from police in Chesterfield late last year.

Officers spotted a VW Golf being driven at speed by 22 year old Jack Cartwright, who'd already lost his licence, on Malson Way on December 12.

He led police on a chase through the town, reaching speeds over 50mph in a 30mph zone, overtaking dangerously and tailgating vehicles.

Cartwright eventually crashed into a bush.

Unable to exit through the door, he escaped through the open window but was promptly arrested after a foot chase.

Cartwright was charged with dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving while disqualified, and driving without insurance.

He pleaded guilty to all charges and was sentenced at Derby Crown Court on April 30.
